United Airlines announced that overweight passengers will have to pay more to fly. A spokesperson for the airline stated that in 2008, the company received close to 700 complaints about overweight passengers.

Now, overweight passengers will have to purchase a second seat at the cost of the original seat or pay for an upgrade if a pair of adjoining empty seats cannot be found.

According to the airline an overweight passenger is anyone who cannot buckle their seat belt, can't fit in a singe seat or who can't put the arm rest down fully while seated.
