This summer, Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa in Palm Springs, and La Costa Resort & Spa in San Diego are looking for a few good men, women and children to slip 'n' slide their way to fun and prizes during the inaugural Sliders Cup - a summer series of water slide races.

Sister properties managed by KSL Resorts, these two resorts already have what many feel are the coolest resort pools in Southern California. Rancho Las Palmas' Splashtopia and La Costa's Splash Landing boast 100 and 120 foot water slides respectively, aqua zones and even sandy beaches.

"Since we opened our pool areas, guests have always been serious about comparing techniques for getting down the water slides the fastest," says Josh Herman, Rancho Las Palmas's director of marketing. "Water slide races were the natural evolution in water fun for both of our properties. The Sliders Cup gives guests the opportunity to test their sliding skills while competing for great prizes."

"Another fun aspect of the Sliders Cup is the pure entertainment value for the audience," added La Costa's Denise Chapman, director of marketing. "We anticipate some lively cheering and lots of laughter as kids from 7 to 97 demonstrate their sliding speed."

Sliders Cup races will take place at each resort every Thursday and Saturday at 5:00 p.m. from June 18 through September 7, 2009. Each property will time racers and award age group "winners" for the fastest time. The four age groups are 7-10 years old; 11-14 years; 15-19 years; and 20 and over. Winners, photos, sliding tips and video footage will be posted online at the Sliders Cup website.

Winners at each resort will be named on a daily, weekly and monthly basis with a grand prize winner in each category at the end of the promotion. Daily winners receive a free smoothie, weekly winners a $100 resort credit (valid for either resort for a minimum two-night stay) to use on their next trip, and monthly winners a complimentary two-night stay (valid for either resort) that includes room, tax, resort charge and parking. At the conclusion of the promotion, each property will award a grand prize winner in each age group. The grand prize is a VIP resort gift certificate good for a two-night stay in a suite at either resort with daily breakfast, unlimited golf, two spa treatments and dinner one evening.

All overnight resort guests and club members who are 48" or taller are eligible to participate. Racers will be asked to fill out a form with their contact information so that prizes can be awarded as earned. Guests can check www.sliderscup.com to see winning times, check their standings and even upload their own race photos and videos. The Sliders Cup is just the beginning of summer fun at both resorts. Fresh on the heels of a $35-million makeover, the 444-room Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa is classic Rancho Mirage re-imagined for the 21st-century traveler. The resort's new offerings include bluEmber restaurant, stylish new guest rooms, the hip R Bar lounge, Kidtopia club for children and Splashtopia, an exciting water playground complete with water slides, lazy river and sandy beach. The resort also features a 20,000-square-foot spa and Yamaguchi Salon, a 27-hole Ted Robinson-designed golf course, a 25-court Peter Burwash International tennis center, four pools, and 41,000 square feet of flexible meeting and event space. The entire resort, linked by walkways and washed in color by lush vegetation and gardens, enjoys a village-like ambience.
