The St. Louis Business Journal reported today that American Airlines and Southwest Airlines will offer a ticket sale that will allow customers to buy one-way tickets for as low as $30, $60 or $90.  Sale prices are available through 11:59 p.m., Wednesday, July 8.

One-way ticket prices for Southwest customers will be based on the distance that  they are traveling.  For example: a ticket from Chicago to Houston will be $90 each way; from Burbank, Calif. to St. Louis, the one-way price is $60, and travelers can fly one way from Baltimore to New York City for $30.

The special fares are available for flights booked for travel from September 9 through November 18, 2009.

The special fares were originally announced by Southwest, #2 carrier at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport, and were matched by American Airlines, the airport's #1 carrier.
