It was announced today that actor and director Steven Soderbergh has created a new play called Tot Mom. The play is based upon the life and saga of Casey Anthony who faces charges of first-degree murder against her 2 year old daughter. The play is set to open in Australia on December 18, 2009 and will run until January 31, 2010. Tot Mom will be performed by the Sydney Theater Company .
CFNews 13 reports that the play is compiled of news documents, transcripts, and released evidence and that no one person has ‘sold’ their story to Soderbergh. Nancy Grace featured the search for Caylee Anthony on her HLN show for months following Caylee’s disappearance. When Caylee Anthony’s remains were found nearby the home of Cindy and George Anthony on December 11, 2008, Nancy Grace continued nightly coverage as suspicions were solidified in the public’s mind that Casey was guilty.
Casey Anthony showed little emotion and failed to participate in active searches for her daughter. She also failed to report her daughter missing for one month. Cindy Anthony reported that she had last seen Caylee on June 15, 2008; George Anthony had last seen his granddaughter on June 16, 2008. On July 15, 2008 Cindy located her daughter Casey who was staying with friends, Caylee, however, was not with Casey.
Cindy called 911 three times on July 15, 2008, police arrested Casey Anthony the following day and charged her with child neglect. Though Caylee’s body had decomposed to such extent that the cause of death could not officially be determined, her death was ruled a homicide. Facing charges of first-degree murder and the death penalty, Casey Anthony’s trial is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2010.
