Art for Darfur is a community movement recognizing the power of art to help change lives in Darfur. The organization began at SMU in 2007 and has since grown to include Dallas students, artists, faith communities, activists, and non-profit organizations. People of all religions and political beliefs are encouraged to join together to help the crisis in Sudan.

Update: On Sunday, April 18, Art for Darfur raised $11,079.50 for Amnesty International's advocacy and education programs for Darfur.

This family-friendly event features affordable art sold in live and silent auctions. Art donations include artwork from Plano and Coppell high school students. It also offers performance art, live music and guest speakers. Children can participate in arts and crafts activities in the Taubman Atrium.

Exhibit Darfur, an international traveling art show featuring work from six photographers including Mia Farrow, will be showcased at the event. Proceeds from Art for Darfur will go to Amnesty International programs for Darfur. Guests will have an opportunity to write letters and petition their elected officials to effect change. Millions of displaced civilians are deprived of aid by the Sudanese government and human rights organizations around the world are standing up for those who cannot.

Art for Darfur will be held at Southern Methodist University in the Meadows School of the Arts building in the Bob Hope Lobby from 7:00 p.m. through 9:30 p.m. $10 for adults; $5 for students with ID; children under 12 are free.
