Back in April we posted an article on the upcoming slasher remake Sorority Row, filmed right here in Pittsburgh. Well the good word is that upcoming is coming up more quickly than we thought. The film’s official release date has been moved up from the previously reported October 2nd to September 11th. The date shift means that the film will no longer be competing against Scorsese’s film Shutter Island, but instead the Kate Beckinsale thriller Whiteout.
Sorority Row is a remake of the 1983 slasher classic The House on Sorority Row in which a group of college girls accidentally kill their strict house mother. Of course not even that can stop a bunch of college kids from throwing a party, but during the festivities, the sorority sisters start getting killed off by a mysterious hooded figure. In the remake, a prank gone wrong accidentally kills off one of the girls, rather than the house mother, but of course it results in a similar series of deaths.
Below you’ll find the trailer for the new Sorority Row along with some cool-looking promotional stills. Plus, as an added bonus, you’ll find the new nominee for greatest trailer of all time: Robogeisha. This Japanese horror/action/exploitation film comes from the genius (and kind of messed-up) filmmakers who brought us films like Machine Girl and Tokyo Gore Police. So basically that means we’re going to see a lot of high-flying, over-the-top violence perpetrated by scantily-clad Japanese girls with weapons protruding out of every conceivable (and some unconceivable) part of their body. Plus, this trailer has the best voiceover guy ever.
But wait, there’s more! Remember back in the day when we ran the article on that badass sounding werewolf biker short A Nightmare on the Town? Well the first scene is being shot on Tuesday July 7th and the filmmakers need extras. So bust out your favorite monster/creeper/ghoulie outfit (but please no zombies, vampires, or copyrighted characters like Freddy or Jason) and get ready for an all night monster mash. If you're interested in being a part of what sounds like a cool local production, just shoot an email over to nightmareonthetown@gmail.com. I know I'll be there and afterwards I'll post a set visit report with some sweet pics.
