Local up-and-coming filmmaker Jordan Paley is making us a promise. Whether he realizes it or not, simply by shooting a film called Nightmare on the Town about werewolf bikers, Paley is promising us a certain level of badassery. And just like Brad Pitt wants his scalps, I want my badassery.
The script is based on a 2003 comic published in Heavy Metal Magazine by author Josef Rother and artist Klaus Scherwinski. Paley has expanded the story about a werewolf enjoying one last night on the town from the six-page comic into a fifteen-minute short.
The last time werewolf bikers hit the screen was in 1971 when Werewolves on Wheels rolled up hot on the heels of Easy Rider's success. It seems that the criminal lack of lycanthrope motorcycle enthusiasts in film has been recognized because in addition to Nightmare on the Town, chronic bit actor Tony Luke Jr. is reportedly developing a werewolf/vampire biker flick, Ride Into Terror, that may or may not feature cult legend Bruce Campbell.
Nightmare on the Town is being produced by Unstrung Films with support by the Factory Digital Filmmaking Program and Tom Savini's Special Make-up Effects Program, both of which are divisions of the Douglas Education Center. The film is set to begin filming July 7th with a scene at the Duquesne Incline and principal photography being shot in Monessen, Pennsylvania.
With any luck there will be periodic updates posted here both on Nightmare on the Town and Ride Into Terror. There will be badassery, and I'll make sure you know where to find it.
