Pat Brisson, Sergei Fedorov's agent, was in Pittsburgh on Tuesday night to watch one of his biggest clients, Sidney Crosby, to be somewhat invisible yet again in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup finals (Did you know that despite the Stanley Cup champion still unknown, the official NHL store has both Pens and Wings Cup championship gear on sale?) .  But for the Washington Capitals fans he should be known as Sergei Fedorov's and Brent Johnson's agent.

Washington Post's Tarik El-Bashir and I caught up with Brisson to talk about his Capitals clients.  Regarding Johnson Brisson said:

"We've been exchanging proposals. Brent likes it there, too, but yeah, they are trying to re-sign him."

Most of our conversation, however, centered around a possible return to Washington for Fedorov.  Here is the with Brisson about the Russian star:

“The last I spoke with Sergei… Where are we today? Tuesday? I spoke with Sergei on Friday, and he was going to Russia to visit his family. His family is here, but there are other members of his family [in Russia]; spend some time there. I knew he was going to get some calls and some meetings with the KHL. He is going to explore that and get back to me. In the meantime, I have spoken to Washington a couple of times. We’ll see. I don’t have any more details.”

Are you guys in the same ballpark? Or is it pretty far?

“Not really. But we weren’t in the same ballpark last year when we started, but we ended up in the same ballpark in the end. Sergei had a great year, he likes it there a lot. He felt that there was some unfinished business. This team could have won Game 7 [against Pittsburgh], and they would be here today. That’s how he felt when I spoke to him. At the same time he is intrigued by the KHL too.”

Does he have a different agent handling his business in the KHL?

“He has a guy that has been friends with his dad. He won’t do anything without [talking to me]. I know Sergei. He is going to run it by me first. It is if different over there. It’s like Jagr last year. He was doing everything with another agent there. But before he really signed the contract [he said] ‘Pat, I need you to see it.’”

Are you at the point that you are exchanging proposals with the Caps regarding Fedorov?

“Fedorov? We had a couple of talks about where they are and where we’re at. There is still time. It is still June. We have a couple of weeks.”

Are the Capitals worried about Sergei leaving for Russia?

“They don’t seem to be. They didn’t express their concern. I think they want to definitely try to keep him if it makes sense for them too, because there is a cap. They have a lot of players to fill under that cap. They recognize that he played well for them this year and last year, in the playoffs. They like what he brings to the team. But it’s still premature. I can still get a call from Sergei tomorrow and he’ll say ‘Pat, I like what I am seeing. I want you to take a look at it. And let’s get it done.”

Do you know which clubs he is looking at over there [in Russia]?

“Magnitogorsk because his brother Fedor is playing over there. And there is another team that I am not so sure yet. I don’t know, to be honest. I don’t really follow the KHL all that much."

It looks like Brisson didn't receive that phone call from Fedorov on Wednesday.  Let's wait and see what is going to happen next.
