Creflo Dollar, pastor of College Park-based World Changers Church International, has really stepped in it this time (although I doubt it'll make a difference to those who already buy in to his message).
During his April 12 Easter Sunday sermon, "Doctor" Dollar revealed to his flock that in the early 1900s, Russian scientists had drilled down to Hell and recorded the screams of the damned using a special heat-resistant microphone. He even presented a harrowing 39-second audio clip.
Dollar claimed to have received this information via letter in 1984. Here's the problem: not only is this "Drilling to Hell" story a thoroughly debunked hoax; it's origins can only be traced back to 1989 or 1990. So...how could Dollar have received a letter in 1984? Further, where did this audio clip come from? Dollar says nothing in his sermon about a recording coming with the letter.
Clearly, either Dollar is intentionally passing this urban legend to his credulous (dare I say "creflolous"?) flock, or he is the latest in a long line of Christians to be duped by it. Frankly, the evidence points to the former conclusion; Dollar has never struck me as being stupid.
If you want to hear the whole thing, here's a great video from a YouTuber named "NotYourTypicalNegro"--he adds some good commentary, except toward the end he castigates Dollar for leading people astray from the "true" Word of God.
