A lot has changed since the last time I went to the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo some 10 years ago. It's currently under construction to build a new elephant exhibit and rebuild the overhead Fulton Road bridge but undoubtedly a great time for all ages.
A Word of Warning:
There are some parts of the park (near the bears and sea lions) that are closed off, yet not indicated on the map, making your zoo visit last a little longer than normal {we covered 1/2 of the zoo and 1/2 of the rainforest in 3 hours time}.
Highlights:
An "secret" zoo entrance from inside Brookside Park near the baseball diamonds
Zoo Key self-guided tours and zookeper led programs throughout the day
A medical center where you may be able to watch an actual animal surgery
Australian Adventure and Wolves exhibits (with camel rides!)
Free admission on Mondays for City of Cleveland Residents (other county residents have select free days available - see website for details)
What's Missing?
Where are the fish?! One of my favorite memories {and childhood photos} is of my 6 year old self with a handful of fish, feeding the sea lions at the zoo! You used to be able to buy them, but not so anymore.
Also, the health department no longer allows the carts to make the 'fresh squeezed' sugar-laden lemonades!
Insider Tips:
There are a selection of fast food optons as well as Aramark-catered fare, but you're welcome to pack a lunch or bring a cooler inside the zoo too for huge savings, particularly with a group of kids or a family!
