It’s not just the loyal group of Melt fans that continues to grow. Since opening in September 2006, Melt Bar and Grilled opened a patio, then expanded the restaurant in summer 2008 to accommodate the droves of hungry Clevelanders, excited to bring an out-of-town friend or spend a mundane any-day enjoying some true laid-back comfort—in the food, drink and vibe. Now, Melt Bar & Grilled has announced exciting news for devoted east-siders who have been making the long trek down I-90: a new location is planned to open in fall 2008 on the corner of Cedar and South Taylor Roads in Cleveland Heights.
If you haven't yet experienced one of Melt's delicious oversize grilled cheese sandwiches you don't know what you're missing. Located at 14718 Detroit in Lakewood, Melt has something for everyone. Several of their items are vegetarian and vegan-friendly.
Each month, a new specialty grilled cheese sandwich is featured on the menu. This month, The Godfather Melt, is an Italian dinner stuffed in a sandwich. Cheesy lasagna, made with fennel & oregano pasta from West Side Market’s Ohio City Pasta, between two thick slices of garlic bread. It can be ordered with or without ground beef and Italian sausage.
Melt has a beer list longer, albeit as diverse as the food menu. In fact, the Drafts of the Week list is a whopping 20 beers long, and you can browse the Melt Beer Guide for bottle selections arranged in 17 different categories. Anyone from your beer aficionado buddy to your girlfriend who says she “hates the taste of beer” will find a brew to delight them. A full bar is also available, and a freshly made red or white sangria is generously poured into a pint glass.
Save room for dessert and have a shot of espresso-infused tequila, partnered with some cheesecake or bread pudding. Or get the carnival experience anytime of the year and order Melt’s deep fried Twinkie; a Twinkie, quartered and dipped in a creamy cinnamon-spiked batter, then fried and served over raspberry sauce, topped with whipped cream and a sliced strawberry.
On Sundays, Melt opens at an hour earlier and serves a brunch menu that includes gourmet waffles, chorizo potato hash, bacon, eggs and an assortment of freshly squeezed juices.
The décor at Melt brings back memories both sensational and sentimental. Illuminated plastic holiday statues of Frosty and Dracula keep company with the Easter Bunny and a leprechaun, and photos of record breaking snowfall and sports moments adorn the walls. Bar and service staff are often tattooed, and always comfortably dressed, attentive and friendly.
Melt Bar and Grilled is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to midnight on Friday and Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday.
