"We saw some good potential and depth in a lot of places," said University of Iowa head wrestling coach Tom Brands. "This was a chance for our guys to weigh-in, have a competition and shake some of the cobwebs out. The results mean a lot and mean nothing at this point. We have a lot of depth and competition in our room, which is no secret, but in order for us to win championships we need guys to wrestle well at every competition."
The defending NCAA and Big Ten champion Hawkeyes will open the season November 14 at the Harold Nichols Open in Ames, Iowa. Iowa's first home dual will be Nov. 20 when it hosts the six-team Iowa City Duals in Carver Hawkeye Arena. Iowa will wrestle Coe College at 10:30 a.m., Cornell College of Iowa at noon, Iowa Lakes at 1:30 p.m., North Carolina-Pembroke at 3 p.m. and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville at 5 p.m.
