2" diameter hail pounded Martha's Vineyard Thursday 7 / 2.

Summer weather in West Tisbury, Dukes County, MA (on the island of Martha's Vineyard) is usually limited to cool ocean breezes and bouts of fog, but just before 11am Thursday 7 / 2, a nasty thunderstorm produced rare hailstones measuring up to 2" in diameter!  Thanks to a persistent low pressure system swirling in the Great Lake, thunderstorms have been exceptionally frequent in the northeastern United States in recent weeks:
