Alexandria, LA set a daily record high Wednesday 7 / 1 as a brutal June heat wave continues into July.

A persistent and strong ridge of high pressure continued to deliver record-setting high temperatures to Louisiana Wednesday 7  / 1 (the same high pressure system was the subject of one of my previous National Weather Highlights: Boiling hot day in Cajun Country).  One noteworthy hot spot was the central Louisiana city of Alexandria which set a daily record high of 101 (the previous record high for 7 / 1 was 100).  The all-time July record high at Alexandria is a sizzling 111!
