Weather pattern favors more thunderstorms in NC
Thunderstorms have been frequent visitors to North Carolina in recent days, and several factors will continue to favor stormy weather between Wednesday 6 / 10 and Saturday 6 / 13:
- ACTIVE JET STREAM The primary branch of the jet stream continues to flow across the Ohio Valley and Mid Atlantic States. With this steup, impulses and disturbances within the jet stream flow will incite and / or sustain bouts of thunderstorms for Virginia into the Carolinas.
- WARM DAYS The very strong June sunshine will greatly promote the daily warming of the lower atmosphere which makes the overall atmosphere unstable / prime for thunderstorms.
- A COLD FRONT'S APPROACH At the surface, a cold front will sag southward toward the Carolinas on / around Friday 6 / 12. The difference in temperature and wind flow across frontal boundaries tend to focus the development of thunderstorms.
- AMPLE RECENT RAIN Since rainfall has been very plentiful lately, moisture content of the soil and plant life in the Carolinas is quite high. This moisture can and will feed back into the atmosphere and help prime it for additional thunderstorms.
