Who said film makers only made films? These moving pictures only pay the bills to an extent, and sometimes award-winning and celebrated directors have to make iPhone commercials to put food on the table. And what happens in these instances? Well, we get television commercials that are actually interesting to watch.

And think about it, how many awful commercials are made every day? From those cheap and way too loud local car dealership ads to the most annoying campaigns put forth by fast food joints and insurance companies, commercials are usually the bane of us all, pummeling us with the worst catch phrases and unfunniest of jokes.

Every now and then something cool happens, like Adidas giving a small group of up and coming directors carte blanche to make any videos they wanted to.

But what happens when Nike hires the director of Seven, Fight Club and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button? Well, you get this:

And what about when American Express gets the director of The Royal Tenenbaums to push their product?

But the best has to go to the director who came from the world of ads and music videos before jumping into feature films, and here goes back to his bread & butter to sell some phone service (and poke some fun at himself). Check it out:

And while that was indeed awesome, your attention needs to be drawn to this cigarette ad, directed by none other than David Lynch (winner of the zaniest cigarette commercial ever award):
