For years, Orlando has tried to position itself as a premiere filming destination, a sort of "Hollywood East." Surely the goal was to lure huge productions to town, flooding the economy with the millions of dollars that come with such films. It doesn't look like it's working though.
Title: Zombies! Zombies! Zombies!
What's It All About, Alfie?: A group of strippers, hookers and hangers-on hole up in a strip club during a zombie outbreak. That simple.
Is It Watchable?: Barely. It is an ultra low budget direct-to-video zombie movie, so to say it has problems is an understatement. The movie looks super cheap, being shot on cheap video, and the acting is all varieties of lame. And there's a mix of practical and digital effects throughout the movie, which makes this a perfect example of how shoddy real effects look better than shoddy digital effects. There's stuff like chainsaws through faces and dislodged eyeballs that look goofy but still have a gross factor going for them thanks to the use of actual props and make up. But when zombies explode into digital blocks (long story) and digital blood sprays in the air, it looks horribly cheesy and fake. Why a movie with such an obviously low budget would try to use computer effects work is beyond me. There was also a serious lack of nudity and sex, considering this is a zombie movie about strippers and hookers. Love those non-nude strip clubs. Zombies! Zombies! Zombies! is a very amateur movie, unfortunately, and really isn't worth the time to watch. The story is ridiculous, the numerous characters are flat and boring and there is way too much exposition for a movie about zombies, strippers, hookers, and zombie crack whores. And the film makers get strikes for blatantly ripping off gags from Feast and Snakes on a Plane. Homages are one thing, straight lifts are another. Sorry fellas.
Use of Orlando: The movie is shot at Club Juana, a Casselberry strip club that has since been shut down. The name of the club, however, is changed. And despite several outdoor shots, there is no use of geography or scenery at all. I think this story was supposed to take place in a small town of some sort, as they definitely did not embrace the Orlando area as a filming destination. There's a "Dewbary Science Research Center," which might be a reference to Debary, Florida, but it doesn't really matter. This story could have taken place in some sort of vacuum world where there is only one road, which contains a strip club, a diner and a research facility.
