Bike Works Shop

A small, inconspicuous neighborhood bike shop in Columbia City is doing an incredible service to make bicycling both more appealing and accessible. Thanks to Bike Works, bicycling is available to many kids who might not otherwise have the opportunity. Bike Works is a non-profit that offers several programs that educate children and adults and promote bicycling. The flagship program, Earn-a-Bike, at Bike Works allows youth to work for a bike while they learn bike repair and give service. After an eight-session class and donating 24 additional hours of public service repairing bicycles, they've earned their bike. The program's benefit is threefold. Kids get to learn a usable skill in a setting away from school, earn a bicycle, and become involved in a life-long healthy and community-building activity.

The Earn-a-Bike program, however is only one of several programs under Bike Works' umbrella. Among their programs are activities to include adults, the community and to benefit other parts of the world. They offer neighborhood rides, bike swaps, and they recycle bicycles. If you're considering replacing an older bike that still is in working order, Bike Works would be appreciative of your donation. They can see that it gets to someone who could use it. Bike Works also participates with the Village Bicycle Project collecting and shipping bikes  several times a year to either Ghana or El Salvador so villagers have transportation. For this program, they can take your donated steel-rimmed bicycles.

To top it all off Bike Works is a full-service bike shop that repairs and sells quality used bikes. They are dedicated to giving Seattle affordable bikes and service that's guaranteed to bring you back. They invite you to come by, ask questions, donate bikes or parts and shop. They have much to offer in the way of used parts that just might be the ticket to what that old ride you can't let go of, needs to keep rolling. You may even find a way to be a part of it all.

Shop is open:   Tuesday - Friday    Noon - 6:00 pm
 Saturday    11:00am - 6:00pm
 Sunday       11:00am - 5:00pm
The Shop is closed on Monday
