There’s a new kid on the block, and BJ's is his name. I haven’t been there yet, but here’s what I’ve heard so far from those trusty diners from Yelp, and other food fan sites.
...the food here wreaked havoc on my whole digestive system all night. Random stomach pains, horrible gas...
...I've been a loyal fan of CPK's BBQ chicken pizza but one bite of BJ's version and I've been hooked ever since...
...The music was loud, and the room was cold. The food was ok, but not great at all...
...10 minutes go by, no table. 20 minutes, no table. 30 minutes, table is about to leave- boo-yah!...
...From start to finish, I feared for my life as I barely managed to maintain my balance on the slippery slick floors...
...Cheeseburger was good (about $8.50), but not as good as Islands...get there early, as it was packed by the time we left (7:30)
...The biggest issue is that this was not Chicago style deep dish... nor a deep dish pizza at all...
...Service-Okay bordering on spotty..
Ok, so it’s the first day of school, and you wore the wrong outfit. Maybe that’s what’s going on at BJs. I take reviews like this with just a few grains of salt, as most restaurant openings are a nightmare, given my history in the restaurant business.
A new restaurant is riddled with all sorts of challenges. You’ve got waiters trying to learn a new menu. Cooks are trying to appease the swelling crowds that clamor to new places. Being a hostess can be a thankless job, let alone dealing with hungry patrons who expect perfection.
But, let’s face it. There are a myriad of places in Culver City to try. How about Rush St. in downtown Culver City? They’ve got their act together, and it sounds like a similar type of place.
I’m curious to try BJs, but maybe I’ll wait awhile until this location irons out its problems. Or, maybe I’ll go and try to swim upstream with the rest of the salmon and take my chances...
