Green Coke (& Ham?), Coca Cola creates eco-friendly bottle made of plant material

Coke is calling it the PlantBottle, and they will begin marketing this eco-friendly bottle later this year with Dasani bottled water (yes, that's a Coke product) and yet unnamed of their carbonated drinks. The test will expand to the vitaminwater brand in 2010. Will that make what's inside the bottle any less toxic and bad for our health and environment?
No more than 30% of the new bottle will be made of a material derived from sugar cane and molasses, which is a by-product of sugar production, said Coke officials. My question is what will the 70% plus of the bottle be made of? It really green if 70% plus is still made from petroleum products? Is this yet another corporate publicity subterfuge?
I personally like regular, Classic Coke even though I know that it is harmful to my body and unhealthy (except in the case of upset stomach, where it still seems to work well). It's where I get my daily caffeine and way too much sugar. And I love their ad campaigns that make me believe that they are a loving part of our society. After all, Coke did invent modern Santa Clause.
Still, I don't think that this new PlantBottle will put Coke on my list of the top 1,000,000 most eco-friendly companies. If they really want to make my list they would produce something that was nutritious with as little packaging as possible. Or they could return to glass returnable bottles, which I loved when I was a kid.
Not only is glass fully recyclable, it makes everything taste better. Coke, milk and anything else that comes in glass is healthier and more flavorful. Forget high-tech possibilities. Return to simple, reusable glass. If it's still good enough for pickles, why not for everything else?
