Man In The Mirror has been one of my favorite songs since 1991 when I had to "sing" it in front of about seventy people at an intensive seminar. And I had to continue performing it until the entire audience "got" the message. Needless to say, the song has become a part of my life since then.
That's one reason I wrote the article suggesting that Man In The Mirror is one of Michael Jackson's greatest achievements. Another reason is that it cries out for personal integrity and responsibility. Still, I never expected to find the following comment on that article. (Yes, I do read all the comments)
From Chuck Haifley:
"I produced Man in The Mirror for Michael Jackson. I believe its still the most important thing I have done in my career. My best friend Don Wilson directed it, and we knew it was very important at the time.
We knew we had a responsibility and the effect it would have on the world. We cried for 30 days straight making it. Michael watched the first half with us but did not see the finished Video until it played while he was singing it live for the first time on the Grammys, and they helped him off stage overcome with his emotions.
I just watched it again and I’m still crying. I was making phone calls to Michael for the last 3 weeks about updating and releasing it every 5 years. If you look at it you will see the trail we have followed since 1988 from Nelson Mandela in prison to President of South Africa as well as Lech Walensa in prison to President of Poland and Gaddafi from Crazy to Civil and now we have Obama as our President its time for all of us to look in the Mirror and Make That Change."
Needless to say, I feel honored that Mr. Haifley took the time to make that comment, and I am grateful to him for producing the video, which you will find below. It really is time that we all take a good look in the mirror, recognize who we really are and make the changes we know are needed. There's no more time to waste hoping that someone else will step up and to take needed action.
May we all be blessed with the courage and vision that so many in this video have shown, and may we each find the strength to make that change.
