Rachael Alexandra, Preakness, filly, colts, win, greatest horse ever, beat the colts
Rachael Alexander a fast female beats the young colts.

Preakness Stakes favorite Rachel Alexandra lived up to her billing Saturday, thundering past an all-male field of competitors and becoming the first filly (female horse) to win the Triple-Crown's second jewel since 1924.  Moreover, she started in the 13th position, which is farther from the inside of the track.  That means that she had a greater disadvantage, which is clear from the fact that no horse have ever started from that outside post and won – until now.

"She's the greatest horse I've ever been on in my life," jockey Calvin Borel said after the race. "She did not handle the track 110 percent and still won."

In another seeming impossibility, Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird came from dead last in the field to charge hard and finish second – nearly defeating Rachel Alexandra.  So, the underdog horse also topped the field of tough young colts.

I'm not a horseracing fan, but I happened to be in front of a television when this happened.  The excitement was palpable, and I could just about hear every woman in the crowd screaming for victory.

I do think the idea of specialty breeding of horses just to race around a track is an enormous waste of resources.  Still, this feels like another symbolic instance of the emergence of the Divine Feminine that we need to balance the overpowering masculine, which has produced a world of war, greed, hunger and violence.   Sure this horse was doing what so many "modern" women are doing - competing against the guys, but the symbolism is not lost.   If she were a woman, I don't doubt that she would be constantly acknowledging the team that created that success (as women tend to do) rather than celebrating her victory.

But Rachel Alexandra is a horse.   Let's wish her well in her victory on behalf of all fillies (who are usually used to breed racing colts (horses less than four years old – who are usually the fastest racers).

What do you think about this victory?  I invite you to share your comments here, and I read them all.

May we all find our true gifts and share them joyously with the world. And may we all recognize that we are true winners.
