Fear runs ramapant when we are divided.

The new movie based on the book Angels and Demons staring Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon finally opens today after months of hype.  In the ads is a logo using the words "Religion" and "Science" to form a Christian Cross as if to imply that this movie will bring the two together when, in fact, they are on different ends of the spectrum.

Organized religions (not spirituality) such as those which are being challenged by Langdon in the movie and by increasing numbers of people worldwide are disappearing.   Members are leaving in droves because these institutions are so secretive and divisive.  The leaders of organized religions usually preach that theirs is the only way to what we all want – happiness, love, community and ultimately a death that brings us to a better place.

In fact, that unscientific concept of there being an "up" out there where we all go if we are "good" according to their standards and a "down" where we go if we are bad is something church officials have used to keep us divided.   And the way to conquer is to divide.

As my mentor Buckminster Fuller taught, we have enough resources to support every person on Earth at a higher standard of living than anyone currently knows.  He went on to say,

"The world's power structures have always 'kept divided to keep conquered.' As a consequence, the power structure has so divided humanity that we are now helplessly inarticulate in the face of the present crisis. We also consider our political representation to be completely corrupted, therefore we feel almost utterly helpless."

So, our organized religions like the Catholic Church maintain their secrets, which Landon attempts to discover before they can be used to destroy the world. But, more important, is the fact that organized religions and all those in power are keeping us from our natural birthright as global citizens able to make our own choices.

May we all recognize that Unity in all aspects of our lives so that we may no longer think, act and speak from the belief that we are divided.
