Did you just go through blood work only to have your doctor come back and say that your cholesterol is too high? There are now choices of medications that help lower cholesterol. Before committing to taking one of these medications, ask your Doctor if a natural remedy could aid in accomplishing the task of lowering your cholesterol. There are a number of natural remedies to consider, check these out.
• Get into an exercise program, which will help you to lose weight and lower cholesterol all at the same time. Start out slow with a walking program, and increase as you feel ready. By getting into a regular exercise such as walking every day, you will lower your risk of high blood pressure which could lead to a heart attack. It lowers your risk of some cancers as well. It will release endorphins to help your mood. Let’s face it, our lives are full of stress on a daily basis, and exercise will help with stress along with just making you feel good about yourself.
• Eat oatmeal every morning for breakfast. It’s the soluble fiber in oatmeal that will help your LDL (bad) cholesterol to lower. Another plus about eating oatmeal in the morning is that it quells hungry pains that start about mid morning could possibly lessen.
• Drink 2 to 3 cups of green tea daily. Studies have shown that green tea raises the HDL (good) cholesterol and lowers blood levels of harmful LDL (bad) cholesterol. Green tea contains a high concentration of antioxidants called Polphenols. Green tea has also been shown to lower risk of some cancers, regulate insulin for diabetes, and help with rheumatoid arthritis survivors.
• Add a handful of raw walnuts into your daily diet. A tip to remember is raw nuts should be stored in the refrigerator to keep all the benefits. Eating them early in the day is best since they are higher in calories. Adding nuts of many kinds to your daily diet can lower your risk of heart disease as well.
• Making small changes to your daily diet such as fewer meats, eggs, milk products, along with processed foods which contain high levels of saturated fats would be a great step to lowering your cholesterol. A good reference for this along with much more great information is Dr. Andrew Weil book, ‘Natural Health, Natural Medicine’.
• Some supplements to add to your daily routine are Omega-3, Niacin, and garlic. Garlic can be taken by tablets as well as added to what you are cooking for dinner. For the Niacin, make sure to get the slow release.
Through making some small changes you will see some great results in your health and the way you feel.
