According to the Greater Chicago Food Depository, the number of people showing up at food pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters in Cook County rose by 30 percent in the last year. This figure means that food banks are in desperate need of donations. While the economic crisis is hurting everyone's pantry, food pantries are running out of food to feed Chicago's hungriest. ABC 7 ran a recent news report that a food pantry on Chicago's South Side ran out of food this past month.
When stocking your shelves please remember those less fortunate battling the cold and hunger this chilly season. When you buy some canned soup and peanut butter, why not buy double and add to the supplies at your local food pantry as well? You'll fill someone's hungry stomach and warm your heart.
The Greater Chicago Food Deposity supplies the majority of food pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters in Chicago. They are always in need of donations.
