Research into hair color shows that stress damages hair DNA and can make hair gray. So if you can keep from getting stressed out, your hair may stay darker.

Scientists at the Tokyo Medical and Dental University have found that gray hair can result from the DNA damage to stem cells that are responsible for making hair color. Stress doesn’t kill off these cells, but makes them form structures that color hair gray instead of a more youthful, vibrant color. “The DNA in cells is under constant attack…” says researcher Emi Nishimura of Tokyo Medical and Dental University.

So if you want to keep your hair looking younger, step away from the stress, dodge road rage and breathe deeply. Meditation may help, too. Calm your mind, feed your hair.
