Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment broke the Guinness World Record for Tallest Ice Sculpture at the opening of the ice skating rink, ICE at Santa Monica this week.
They did so with a 45 foot tall sculpture of Scrat, one of the characters from the movie Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, which was just released on DVD and blu-ray yesterday along with the sculpture's unveiling. Over 133,000 pounds of ice was used, gathered across four states. Here's a cool time lapse video of the sculpture being made:
Artists from Blue Sky Studios developed the look of the model. A team of 14 skilled sculptors from Ice Bulb LLC built it over a 4-day period. A Guinness World Records adjudicator was on site to oversee the effort. The previous record for the Tallest Ice Sculpture is 40.28 feet and was achieved by Michel Amann in Ski Dubai, Dubai, United Arab Emirates on April 20, 2006.
You can see it for yourself for free at the ICE at Santa Monica 8000-square-foot outdoor ice rink in Downtown Santa Monica at 1324 5th Street (at Arizona Avenue).
