Dave Freeman, co-author of the popular book 100 Things To Do Before You Die passed away on August 17th, after hitting his head in a fall at his home in Venice, California, reported his father Roy Freeman today. He was 47 years old and had visited about half the places listed in his book.
Just a reminder of how short life can be and how on their deathbed no one ever said “I wish I had spent more time at work.” In honor of Dave, here are seven simple things that will feed your soul.
1. Call a friend and tell them how much you love and appreciate them
2. Make a list of 5 things you would like to do in the next year
3. Call up and register for that cooking, dancing, painting or writing class you have always wanted to take
4. Send a check to charity in honor of a friend or family member
5. Take a walk in the park; take a hike with a friend
6. Make dinner and actually sit down and eat it as a family with no radio, tv or texting
7. Send a thank you note to a friend for no good reason
It’s all to easy in our overachieving culture to forget to step back, breathe and enjoy the big picture. Dave’s book inspired us to do just that – his death reminds us how important it really is. Memorial donations may be made to the children's charity Room 13 International in care of Barbara Overlie, TBWA/Chiat/Day, Dave Freeman Memorial Fund, 5353 Grosvenor Blvd., Los Angeles CA 90066.
