Billy Donovan keeping an eye on America's marching bands

On the very same day that the Wisconsin band was suspended for hazing and alcohol abuse, Florida men's basketball coach Billy Donovan signed his 6-year contract extension worth $19.5 million.

Donovan had waited 16 months before signing the extension and, as SI.com writes, "It was unclear what caused the long delay in signing the contract."

(Some say he switched attorneys, others believe he couldn't find a pen.)

Now that Donovan has finally chosen to ink the deal, the Florida basketball coach's motivations have come to light.

Just look at the timing. Donovan was obviously waiting for someone to bring that crazy Wisconsin marching band to justice. After all, we can't have band members corrupting the moral fabric of America with their hyper-sexualized hijinks.

While no specifics have been released about the latest charges, the band's director said the allegations of misconduct were similar to those of 2006, which landed the band on probation. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel provided a nice list of the UW Marching Band's 2006 transgressions.

• A hazing incident in which a female band member was told to suck on a sex toy.

• Female band members being forced to kiss other female band members to gain access to bus bathrooms.

• Younger band members being forced to run errands and refill beer cups for older band members.

• Behavior in 2004 that led a bus driver to pull over and call the police.

Here's my theory: Once the Wisconsin band was barred from the Ohio State game at Camp Randall Stadium, something that hasn't happened in at least 40 years, Donovan finally felt comfortable signing his contract extension.

So what's the relationship between Donovan and the University of Wisconsin. Well, I haven't really figured that out yet. But as soon as the Google reveals the answer I'll let you know. (Any thoughts?)

Until then, let's just sit back, relax and take in the soothing sounds of the Wisconsin marching band's pre-game performance before last year's Ohio State game.
