Well, it’s New Year’s Eve and the big question, as always, is what to do.

Put that party hat on and make your way to some of the best known celebrations in the world. And, if you can’t get there this year then make it your New Year’s resolution for next year to celebrate in style in one of these famous cities.

1. New York City’s Times Square celebration – Watch the ball drop from One Times Square – it’s been a tradition since 1906. It’s free too.

2. Watch Fireworks from the London Eye – This event has been happening since 2003 with loads of fireworks that are launched from the 442-foot London Eye.

3. Go for a picnic at Paris’ Champs Elysées – The best pick if you are in Paris. Get a view of the Eiffel Tower from the Champs-Elysees and see the fireworks too.

4. Rio de Janeiro Beach – It’s always a party in Rio and definitely on New Year’s Eve. Hit Copacabana beach a make friends with the other two million people who had the same idea. There is also a mix of fireworks, samba and music.

5. Sydney’s Light Parade and Fireworks – The place to be in Australia is definitely Sydney Harbor. It’s a Light Parade as over 50 boats and ships make their way around the harbor with a culmination at midnight of fireworks being fired from a number of barges.

6. Vancouver’s Polar Bear Swim – It’s cold, but it’s a tradition and people of all ages take the plunge on New Years – a good way to start 2009.

7. Scotland’s Hogmanay – Start off the New Year right as in both Edinburgh and Glasgow street parties hosting up to 100,000 people ring in the New Year and, at midnight, there is the celebration of "First Footing," where gifts are exchanged.

8. Boston’s First Night – It’s a new tradition celebrating the city’s visual and performing arts. Began in 1976, an alcohol-free festival with ice sculptures, dancing, storytelling, theater, poetry, films and at the stroke of midnight, fireworks.

9. Tokyo’s Disneyland/DisneySea New Year's Eve Celebration – If you like fireworks, special shows, parade and all to the backdrop of Disneyland and DisneySea then this is the New Year’s Eve celebration for you.

10. Malaysia Dataran Merdeka – In Kuala Lumpur, this is Malaysia’s version of Times Square. Restaurants and shops are decorated with colorful bulbs, balloons and steamers. The Malaysian flag flies high and people celebrate in the streets until daybreak. Indeed, Happy New Year or “Selamat Tahun Baru” is heralded by all.
