The KillaCycle has certainly been an eye opener for many and a cause in furthering the image that electric vehicles, EV are not wimps. Now its future looks to take on even more records.
The gist is that this amazing electric motorcycle called KillaCycle has upset the dragster world and plans to continue. Ever improving its record breaking runs, the KillaCycle wants to clinch the world title. And judging from the numbers, it might just do.
Technically Speaking. Bill Dube has done an incredible job with his dragster, squeezing more power from his electric motors then they were originally designed for. Using 2 advanced DC L-91 4003 electric motors, originally designed for 130 continuous amps, they actually get zapped with 1,800 when racing. Intended to run on 72 to 120 volts, they currently get jolted at 374 volts. The two electric motors use CafeElectric's Zilla2K-HV controller capable of handling up to 2,000 amps. The best part of it is that none of the A123 Systems batteries have ever had to be changed after racing, a testament to their quality. The results are impressive with a 7.824 second for the quarter mile run.
The current motorcycle dragster record is set at 5.799 seconds on a turbo nitro powered bike, weighing 468kg for 1,000hp. Bill thinks he can clinch that record with his next project, featuring AC motors, a new frame, next generation A123 Systems batteries and 385kg for about 1,000hp with his new electricKillaCycle dragster. These numbers should get him the well deserved title.
Will the electric drive ever become the next muscle cars? Did you ever doubt it? Seriously now.
