Brigitte Gabriel challenges Americans to fight radical Islam (part three)

In this final installment of our exclusive interview with author and ACT! for America founder Brigitte Gabriel (Part One and Part Two), this expert on jihadi terrorism spells out the one thing that is keeping the White House from fighting an all-out war against radical Islam.

Gabriel also addresses the changing demographic picture in Europe, and explains what ordinary people can do to win the war on the West.

EXAMINER: What do you think is preventing the US government from spelling out exactly what sort of threat we are facing?

BG: Political Correctness!

We have become a society of spineless leaders and greedy politicians who value the perks of Capitol Hill and care about one thing and one thing alone, and that is getting re-elected. Most of them started with good intentions when they ran for office, to represent their community and serve our nation. However the perks and power associated with the job once they get to Capitol Hill are too much for many of them to resist and they fall into a materialistic and egotistic power trip that consumes them. Too many care more about being applauded for their “diversity” and “tolerance” than they do about what is in the best interest for protecting our country. 

Conversely, too many are afraid of being criticized or called an “Islamophobe” and thus they refuse to even look at what the true nature of the threat is. Look at the reaction to Congressman Virgil Goode (R-VA) every time he expressed concern about Islam or Islamic immigration into America and such issues. He was labeled: “A Bigot in Congress,” “colossally stupid,” and suffering from “xenophobic delirium.” He was excoriated for his “ignorance” and “mindless prejudice.” These are just few of the comments that were written about him in some media not to mention how he was ridiculed on national television. Virgil Goode was one of a few patriotic Americans up in DC who were and are willing to put their neck out there and stand up and be counted. They are the ones who deserve our support.

There’s another reason our government is not spelling out the threat we are facing. Under the Muslims initiative program, which President Bush introduced after September 11th 2001, we have recruited thousands from the American Muslim community into sensitive positions in our government so they can help us win the war against Islamic radicalism.

What we are finding out is that most of these Muslims are connected directly or indirectly to terrorist organizations and sympathizers, and not surprisingly they are the ones muzzling anyone in our government criticizing Islam. Just look at what happened to Stephen Coughlin at the Pentagon last year. Stephen Coughlin, the Pentagon specialist on Islamic law and Islamist extremism, was fired from his position on the military’s Joint Staff. He was fired because he offended Hasham Islam, a Muslim aide to the deputy secretary of defense with links to the Muslim Brotherhood. Mr. Islam was offended at what Mr. Coughlin had written in his thesis about radical Islam.

EXAMINER: Are you concerned about relatively high Muslim birthrates in Europe, and Muslim immigration to the US?

BG: Anyone who has watched Europe morph into Eurabia because of Islamic immigration and birth rate is very concerned about this trend. After World War II Europe needed labor to rebuild the continent.

After creating informal alliances with Arab countries in 1974, Europe was ready, willing and able to accept the presence of “guest workers.”  Unskilled Muslim laborers poured into the continent from Turkey, and the Mahgreb region of Northern Africa (Tunisia, Morocco, and Algeria). After the initial rebuilding and redevelopment, the workers remained in Europe to fill other unskilled industrial positions. 

Around this time, the birth rate of Europeans, which had been falling since 1945, continued its downward trend while Muslim communities had higher birth rates.  For the Europeans, economic development meant more leisure time and discretionary income. For some Muslims it meant more money and social services to take care of more children. The erosion of Europe had begun.

As a consequence of years of ignorance and apathy mixed with Islamic demography, ideology, and culture, Europe now has become a home to millions of Muslim youth who may hold European citizenship but have no connection to European culture, identity, society, or values.

To promote equality, Europeans allowed Muslims the right to develop madrassas, Islamic cultural centers, Koranic Colleges and institutions, and even to implement Sharia law.

For years, Great Britain and other countries of Western Europe have bent over backward to accommodate the growing Muslim population within their borders. It has been nearly an article of faith that multicultural tolerance of Muslims, even militant Muslims, would promote peace and interfaith dialogue, and diminish the possibility of terrorist attacks. That “article of faith” is proving to be an illusion. Four in ten Muslims wanting to live under Sharia law in Britain…13% saying they `admire’ organizations such as al Qaida.

What we in the West regard as a virtue (tolerance and accommodation) Islam regards as weakness and an implicit if not explicit acknowledgement that Islam is superior and we are inferior. The harder the West tries to accommodate Islam, the more it is seen by Muslims as weak. This is why, in spite of everything Great Britain has done to accommodate Islam, Islamic militancy in Britain grows and the threat of terror increases.

Contrary to the hopes and best intentions of those seeking to accommodate Islam, the tolerance of Islamic intolerance will simply promote more Islamic intolerance. It is something the West in general and America in particular must come to acknowledge.

EXAMINER: Tell us all about Act for America: why it was founded, the organization's goals and your successes so far.

BG: One of the primary goals of ACT! for America is to empower and give a voice to the many individuals who now feel powerless.

ACT! for America is empowering thousands of people by connecting each person to an organization much larger than themselves.  As we build a formidable network of local chapters and hundreds of thousands of members, we will demonstrate to those in government, academia, and the media that we are not going to sit back and blithely allow our cherished freedoms to be eviscerated by the assault of political correctness, intimidation, and deception.  As we speak with a powerful, unified voice, we will demonstrate that those who are trying to steal our freedom to speak are not a majority voice in America, but a small minority.  We will demonstrate to those intent on spreading the vile ideology of Islamofascism that we have the will and the means to resist.

History demonstrates the power grassroots organizations in America can exert.  Indeed, any country that has freely elected government representatives has the potential to exert this kind of “bottom-up” power to dictate the course of public policy.

Why?  Because of what I said previously -- elected officials care about being reelected. Organized power at the grassroots level will trump the voices of political correctness. A grassroots uprising can be more powerful than the establishment media.

We are not simply hoping for a spontaneous grassroots eruption that may or may not come. We are making it occur by organizing ACT! for America chapters and supporters across America.  We are providing a vehicle through which Americans can become part of a movement to fight against the rising tide of Islamofascism and the political correctness that supports it.  We will force elected representatives to choose – align themselves with the voice of grassroots America or the voice of political correctness.

In our first 17 months of existence we have helped win the passage of “Rachel’s Law” in New York; persuaded a Tyson Foods plant to scrap a provision in its union contract that removed Labor Day as a paid holiday and replaced it with Eid al-Fitr; created national pressure on the state of Minnesota to investigate a charter school that was promoting Islam, which led to two citations for violating the law; published our first “congressional scorecard,” documenting congressional votes on national security and terrorism issues going back to 2003; launched our “Citizens in Action” grassroots training conferences, of which we have seven scheduled this year; and published the 2008 Voters Guide, that asked candidates their positions on issues related to radical Islam that, to our knowledge, have never been published in a voter guide before.

As a result, we are now adding one new chapter every day and between 3,000 and 4,000 new members each month. 

EXAMINER: What if anything can ordinary people do to fight the threat?

BG: Get educated about Islamic ideology and history. There are plenty of books on the subject by great authors and thinkers of our time. I myself have written two New York Times Best Sellers on the subject.
