This past Monday, the New York Chapter of the United States Bartender’s Guild held a Solerno Blood Orange Liqueur Luncheon at ‘inoteca on 24th and 3rd. The lunch included delicious nibbles, fine cocktails and a presentation by Charlotte Voisey, Secretary of the NY USBG and the Portfolio Brand Ambassador for William Grant and Sons.
Solerno is a product new to New York and the US, and comes all the way from Sicily where it is distilled in alembic copper pot stills and bottled in a Murano-glass inspired masterpiece. The bottom of the bottle resembles a citrus juicer to give it a really cool effect. Made out of a wheat spirit base and Sicilian blood oranges, this is a clear spirit that is a really good cocktail ingredient. Deceptively strong at 40% ABV, this is not a light spirit either. The nose and taste are both of orange, with a hint of pepper and a smooth finish to the full body.
This luncheon was a great way to learn about the spirit and try awesome cocktails by Charlotte. In addition to a fun time, guests were provided with samples of the spirit to play around with at home. One great cocktail that Charlotte recommends with Solerno is the Solerno Blood and Sanguinello. Cheers!
