It was 100F as I drove home from work this afternoon.  I say this commuter cyclist up ahead in a really bad position.  He's to the left and slightly in front of that green car.  When cross traffic cleared, he jumped the light and merged into the lane just as the car began moving ahead.  The lane narrows on the other side of the intersection.

But I have to give him credit for planning ahead.  In order to make that left turn, he's moved into the left lane well in advance.  Still, he should be in the travel lane, not up against the traffic island.

Here he is on the other side of the over pass.  He went around that car and he's turning left, blythely ignoring the red light.

When cyclists blatantly disregard the traffic laws, they attract negative attention.  I have little sympathy for those who break the law.  We have plenty of pushback from law enforcement, public officials, and bureaucrats already.  It's a hard, uphill struggle to get them to accept the best practices that actually benefit cyclists, and have them put aside outdated ideas.  Things like this don't help because they annoy all those motorists, and as we all know, there are more motorists than there are cyclists.  When election time rolls around, who do you think will get the politician's attention?
