The Holloways

When it comes to Brit Pop, you can go the way of Keane. When you need Brit Ska(ish) good jams, there's no better place to go than the Holloways, the four-piece indie band from North London. They're fun, rowdy, and offer great bouncy sing-a-long tunes, especially Generator, one of my favorite songs.

For British music, these guys are too good not to share. Alfie Jackson (Guitar, vox), Robert Skipper (Guitar, vox), Bryn Fowler (Bass, vox) and Dave Danger (Drums) — and his name really is Dave Danger —really get into what they do. I could see a Glastonbury Festival with these guys tag-teaming with The Wombats. Talk about a show.

It’s a bit funny that someone once remarked that “Truly now is the time to get into them, because, like Kaiser Chiefs, everyone will hate them in a year’s time.”

This Libertines-meets-Kaiser Chiefs band sings about mundane items — after all, they are nice, middle class boys.
Their first single ‘Two Left Feet’ entered the charts at number 33 in July of 2006, with the follow-up ‘Generator‘ charting at number 30 in October.

Why talk of them now? They're currently recording their second album and it should be here in the Fall.

The name? They formed in a live-music venue called Nambucca on the Holloway Road in 2004, and the name stuck.

Fancy a listen? Here's 'Generator':

GENERATOR:
Great lyrics (Everyone can relate to)

I can get a record player, and a generator. Generate the music that makes you feel better.

I dont live in poverty, I got a little bit of money and i've got a healthy body. I'm not going to let stuff get me upset, and i wont let all the little things get me depressed.

When i was a young boy I got a stereo and I taped all the songs straight off the radio.

The sounds that the bands made, and the melodies is all I need to make me feel free.

Sometimes you get so low, you don't know why, or a little upset all inside. May I remind you? That you don't live in poverty, you got your youth, and you got food in your belly.

I can get a record player, and a generator. Generate the music that makes you feel better. (2x)

sometimes you get so low, you don't know why, and you get a little unsettled inside. May i reind you? that you don't live in poverty, you got your youth, and you got a roof over your head.

I can get a record player, and a generator. Generate the music that makes you feel better.

I can get a record player, and a generator. Generate the music that makes you feel better.

I'll set up a record player, and a generator. Generate the music that makes you feel better. (4x)
