Indie Music Examiner
Kyle grew up on The Housemartins, R.E.M., The Clash, Talking Heads and (unfortunately) some Wham! Today while he still follows Stipe and Co. he has interviewed the likes of Menomena, What Made Milwaukee Famous, The Thermals, Louis XIV and Ben Kweller.

'Milwaukee' free MP3s from Sugar Hill sessions

November 7, 1:56 PM
by Kyle du Ford, Indie Music Examiner

Don't turn around, Jeremy, a tiger is about to eat you
The boys from Austin, Texas who tour ad infinitum are at it again, this time driving straight through Denver and hitting Boise, Idaho, for a quick show before making it to Seattle and a quick West Coast tour, including Los Angeles, before heading home (see schedule below).

The modern indie band with a 1970s power pop vibe and who is known for covering Billy Joel, has a chef who doubles as a drummer and has been known to sing on a bus (not to mention a great sophomore album, What Doesn't Kill Us) also just released last night their SugarHill Sessions digital EP. For free.

The five songs available are all acoustic with a great use of piano (rather than Drew Patrizi's keyboard) and done in one take: 'Sweet Lady,' 'The Other Side,' 'Self-Destruct,' 'To Each His Own' (a rousing favorite), and 'Cheap Wine' (a forgettable version until they rock out at 1:20 into the song, showing of that Jeremy Bruch is just as much the glue in this band by whacking the kettles as lead singer/songwriter Michael Kingcaid).

It's now available via eMusic and barsuk.com as a free download until November 17th.

November Touring:
10  Seattle, WA  Chop Suey
11  Portland, OR  Doug Fir Lounge
13  San Francisco, CA Popscene
14 Los Angeles, CA Echo
15 Costa Mesa, CA Detroit Bar

Win a Thermals poster from Grain Edit

October 21, 2:08 PM

Interview: Ben Kweller

October 16, 3:59 AM
When Ben Kweller plays a show, he recently told us, he guarantees a good time. That's his promise, and he'll stick to it. You don't really want Evan Dando [of the Lemonheads] to drive anyway. Watch as we interview Ben just after his show backstage at... Read More

We Are Scientists play Nokia Theater tonight

October 15, 2:14 PM
For eight years We Are Scientists of New York City have worked the scene, painstakingly releasing record after record, relentlessly touring to promote themselves amid a sea of new indie rubbish. It's paid off. Like Luna did years before them,... Read More

The Holloways

September 3, 3:05 PM
When it comes to Brit Pop, you can go the way of Keane. When you need Brit Ska(ish) good jams, there's no better place to go than the Holloways, the four-piece indie band from North London. They're fun, rowdy, and offer great bouncy sing-a-long tunes,... Read More

Sons and Daughters

September 2, 2:19 PM
This year, so far, I've quite enjoyed the musings Sons & Daughters, the Glaswegian-band that got some early US play in 2003 touring with Franz Ferdinand, and some more in 2006 with Bright Eyes. If you don’t have Love the Cup (EP) or the Repulsion... Read More

The Delays

August 29, 11:45 AM
One of the albums of 2008 that I really enjoyed has been the Delays’ new record, Everything’s a Rush. You know these guys from their falsetto, harmonies and jangle Brit-pop that made them famous with songs like ‘Long Time Coming,’... Read More

The La's

August 28, 5:08 PM
1983-1995, 2005 You know the song, though you might not know who sang it. It was a quick one-off in 1988 that got little or no attention until it was subsequently covered (by Sixpence None the Richer, Robbie Williams, Mimi, The Beat Crusaders, and... Read More

Captain Dangerous

August 28, 4:10 PM
These guys are British. And British, I mean, really British. The kind that don't loose their accents when they sing, like how you could never tell Sting was English when you heard The Police. Captain Dangerous is a brilliant cross between the... Read More
