Highly celebrated for his signature haute couture interiors, Alberto Pinto finds a new design mantra in Orientalism, a cultivated yet clearly eclectic approach to residential décor. Prestigious homes—and I mean palaces—designed by Pinto in the Maghreb, Marrakech, Tangier and Riyadh reflect a romantic joie de vivre in richly embellished rooms set off by traditional Saracenic elements, such as ogee arches and ornamented mirrors.

But the true beauty of these homes lies in the designer’s ability to marry fundamental dialects of the Middle East with the varied idioms of the West. Natural palettes of crème-hued plaster-finished walls and florid crenelations provide a serene backdrop for Pinto’s revival instincts. Bursts of untamed color enliven decorative portals and geometric arcades. Robust shapes surround wild compositions of texture and light, and capture flickers of the subtle, lasting beauty of earlier cultures.

In Orientalism, Pinto furthers our appreciation of the character and styles of the Middle East, and discovers yet another layer of juxtaposition between East and West. An articulated world emerges in images that convey a deep union, stir the imagination and sate the soul.

Alberto Pinto is among the most celebrated interior designers at work today. Here he turns his eye to the wonders of the East and a series of interiors inspired by the colors and textures of Morocco, Byzantium, India, and beyond. Each interior celebrates opulence, whether with fine damasks and silks, intricate tile work, or glittering objets d'art. Included are other visual stage sets for living that are as breathtaking as they are original-vast terraces over sumptuous gardens, shimmering swimming pools open to the sea and sky, filtered light bouncing off floor-to-ceiling mirrors reflecting an infinity of precious woods in an exquisite parquet floor.
