Today, September 24th, is the 6th Annual National Punctuation Day. I thought it would be relevant to speak on the importance of spelling and grammar in the workplace as it relates to your resume. Here goes:
Imagine if you are a employer nd you are redding a resume that look like this and spelt like this. what would you think? Even if the job had nuttin to do wit spelling or gramar, might you still be concerned? You might think hey! if the applicint don’t care avbout presenting themselves properly, why would they care bout how they look and act with you. You might axe yourself if there the right person to higher.
However, if you submit a pristine resume, complete with a well-written letter, you automatically rise to the top echelon of candidates. Please do not rely solely on spell-check - their are reasons why there not they’re best asset - so use with extreme caution. If possible, let someone you trust proof read your text. Again be careful, I know of “professionals” who either did not have the skill, time, or desire to really proofread and instead sent their clients out with inferior resumes and letters. Use double caution if you had someone else write your materials. No employer will accept the fact that you did not write the document as an excuse. After all, you did turn it in as a representation of you, right?
So, in honor of National Punctuation Day, let’s be careful out there.
Want to laugh? Wanna cry? Here are some examples of resumes that serve as entertainment for the H.R. folks. Make sure your name isn’t on any of them.
Spelling, punctuation, grammar - oh my!
Guess what resume error has the highest percentage?
These are funny but sad - depends on whose resume it is, I guess.
And a little something extra.
