NBA fantasy basketball roundup Part II--April 4, 2009
Magic hammer Cavs in Orlando...another flaw in Cleveland's armor, as Howard & Company de-pants the best team in the league...seven Orlandians (?) reached double figures, led by Rashard with 22, Superman with 20 and 11, and Hedo with 13 and 6 assists...Courtney "Yeah, I Know It's A Girl's Name" Lee, Tony Battie and Anthony Johnson each scored 10, and Rafer Alston delivered 11 points, 10 assists and 4 steals...when the Magic are hitting their threes (13-of-27 in this one) they are about unbeatable, even when they miss a bunch of free throws...LeBron finished with 26, 9 and 5, and Mo Money and the Z-Man each scored 10...Orlando led in blocked shots 9-0, and the Cavs shot 37% for the game...this one will probably serve as a motivator for Cleveland if and when these teams meet in the playoffs.
T-Wolves come back in second half to pin Gut-Wrencher on Jazz in Utah...it's a good thing Jerry Sloan was back in Illinois for this one, or someone would have gotten hurt...Circus Carney and Ryan Gomes led Minnesota with 25 points apiece, and Mike Miller delivered 14, 9 and 8...reserve Sebastian Telfair registered 18 and 7 assists before fouling out, and Shelden "Big Stiff Draft Bust" Williams had 12 and 5, an indication of how poorly the Utah bigs played...another indication is that Kevin Love had 2 points and a +16 rating...Deron Williams had a Heroic, But Ultimately Futile Effort for Utah with 34 and 11 assists, Kyle Korver scored 19, AK-47 had 13, Paul Millsap 12 and Mehmet Okur 11...Utah got out-rebounded 42-28, which is almost inconceivable against the Wolves minus Al Jefferson, and turned the ball over 23 times...at this rate they don't figure to be in the playoffs for long....they look very capable of getting dumped in the first round.
Suns whomp Kings in Phoenix...that's a good verb: to whomp...Steve Nash led eight--count 'em, eight--Suns in double figures with 29 and 9 assists, J Rich had 19 and 5, and Leandro Barbosa and Jared Dudley scored 15 apiece...Grant Hill added 12, and Matt Barnes, Shaq and Goran Dragic, who's not from around here, finished with 11 each...Francisco Garcia led the Kings with 29 as Kevin Martin sat out with an ankle...The Future Is Now had a strong 22 and 10 doubler, Jason Thompson delivered 23 and 6, and Rashad McCants came off the bench for 17...Andres Nocioni notched 11 and 6 as the Kings got out-everythinged in this one, other than free throws...the Suns would have won by 50 if Stat had played.
Short-handed Warriors stick it to Hornets in Oakland...Golden State played seven guys; New Orleans dressed 12, but only two came to play...Jamal Crawford went OFF for 39, Anthony Morrow scored 24, and Anthony Randolph erupted for 20 and 15 to lead the Warriors...it's tempting to start referring to the Dueling Anthonys; good thing the season's almost over...C.J. Watson scored 11, and Ronny Turiaf pulled down 11 rebounds...Chris Paul was incandescent with 43 points, 9 assists and 3 steals, and David West had a big night with 31 and 14, but the Hornets are increasingly looking like a two-man show, a recipe for disaster in the playoffs...Casual Rasual phoned his game in, going 3-for-14 from the floor and finishing with 7 points and 4 rebounds in 36 overly-casual minutes...restating the obvious, the Hornets, other than Paul and West, managed 29 points for the night.
Lakers subdue Rockets in Los Angeles...Big Brother led the way with 23 and 10, Kobe added 20 and 7 assists, and Derek Fisher scored 15 for the Lakers...Lamar Odom flirted with a doubler before finishing with 9 and 11...RonRon led Houston with 21 and 9, Chairman Yao had 16 and 10, and Luis Scola delivered his customary 16 and 9...Shane Battier had a week with 14 points, but Houston violated Allen's Deviant Hoops Theorem with 19 and 20, assuring their defeat...the Laker bench was on fire, going 8-for-29...Los Angeles crept back within one game of the Cavaliers for the best record in the league and home court advantage throughout the playoffs, which is huge.
