NBA fantasy basketball roundup Part II--February 5, 2009
See Part I of my fantasy basketball rant here.
Hawks win one on the road in Minnesota...missing
Joe Johnson, Atlanta got big games from
Mike Bibby (24, 4 and 7),
Marvin Williams (23 and 10) and
Josh Smith (19 and 7) to hold off the Wolves...Minnesota went cold from the floor, shooting 36% for the night...
Iron Man had an 18 and 11 doubler on 7-for-17 shooting, and starter
Kevin Love added 16 points and 14 rebounds...
Randy Foye had a miserable 4-for-19 night for 15 points, and
Ryan Gomes was even worse, going 1-for-10 for 3 points in 40 hurtful minutes...
Sebastian Telfair topped the bricklaying list with an 0-for-9 donut in 24 minutes...wow...
Mike Miller came off the bench to shoot 7-for-10 for 17 points...there was a
Rashad McCants sighting, and he scored 10 points in 15 minutes...Atlanta shot 50% for the game, but only 27% from long distance. They also missed 13 of 38 free throws, and got out-rebounded 45-37...
Minnesota complied with Allen's Deviant Hoops Theorem, which states that when you have more turnovers than assists, you lose. Bulls work short-handed Hornets in The Big Easy...talk about catching a team at the right time...missing Chris Paul and Tyson Chandler, the Hornets were no match for the Bulls, who, at 22-28, were thumping their chests after this one...get over yourselves--with Paul and Chandler the Hornets win by 15...Chicago put six players in double figures, led by R Derrick Rose with 21, 4 and 6...Ben Gordon scored 19, Joke Him Noah had 16 and 9, and Tyrus Thomas 15 and 10...Luol Deng and Nocioni added 13 each in a game the Bulls led 62-44 at the half...Peja and David West scored 24 each, with West adding 14 boards, and Seldom Used Devin Brown had 17 points off the bench...Hornets starters Armstrong, Casual Rasual and Antonio Daniels combined to go 5-for-16 from the floor for 13 points...notgettingitdone...Melvin Ely had an 0-for-7 donut in 11 minutes...I imagine New Orleans is looking forward to the rematch.
Nuggets pin another gut-wrenching loss on Thunder in Okieville...
Carmelo saved Denver's bacon yet again, going for 32 points and 11 assists and delivering the game-winning dagger with 5 seconds left...
J.R. Smith had 22 off the bench, and
Nene had another efficient 20 and 8 night...the
Birdman blew up, with 12 points and 7 boards before fouling out...Denver was missing
Chauncey and K-Mart and overcame the presence of
Renaldo Balkman in their starting lineup...the Okies' Big Three delivered again, featuring
Kevin Durant (31, 8 and 7),
Jeff Green (24, 5 and 3) and
Russell Westbrook (20, 4 and 5)...
Earl Watson came off the bench with 12 points and 8 assists, and
Nick Collison added 11 points and 8 boards starting at center...
Kyle Weaver started and rode an 0-for-6 shooting night to two points and 5 boards...weak...
Krstic added 8 points and 7 rebounds...the Thunder scored 70 first half points and simply let this one get away from them, the sign of a young team....
if I were building a team from scratch, I wouldn't mind starting with Durant, Green and Westbrook. Portland loses again in Dallas...that's 11 in a row...Dallas enjoyed a 30-16 margin in the second period, led by 12 at the break, and held on in the second half for a close win...the Mavs were led by
Josh Howard with 23 points,
Terry added his usual 20, and
Brandon Bass continued his strong play with 19 points on 9-for-11 shooting...
Dirk had a 16 and 11 doubler, taking only 13 shots, and
Antoine Wright had a week with 11 points and 4 dimes...
Jason Kidd moved into 4th place on the career assist list with a 7, 7 and 10 night...
Erick Dampier had his usual 2 points and 2 rebounds...
Brandon Roy led Portland with 26 difficult points, and
LaMarcus Aldridge added 21 and 5...starters
Batum, Oden and Rodriguez combined for 13 points...
not good enough...reserves
Fernandez, Bayless and Outlaw, on the other hand, went a combined 14-for-27 from the floor for 39 points...
The Vanilla Gorilla had 6 rebounds and a donut in 22 minutes...
Dallas shot 55% for the game with 43 field goals on 28 assists. Warriors punk Suns in Oakland...Golden State had it going on, scoring 43 points in he first quarter and 72 before the break and never trailed...the Warriors were led by
Captain Jack with 30, 10 and 11,
Jamal Crawford with 27, 5 and 6, and
Kalenna Azubuike with 25 points...
Corey Maggette added 18 and 7 off the bench, and
The Big Euro had 10, 9 and 3...the only Golden Stater not to get on the train was
Monta Ellis, who was 0-for-7 in 28 minutes...even
Ronny Turiaf busted loose for 9 points...
Phoenix put six players in double figures while playing no defense at all...J Rich led with 24 and 5,
Barbosa added 20, and
Shaq had a 17 and 12 doubler, going 8-for-9 from the floor...
Nash had 16 points and 9 dimes,
"Stat" 13 and 8 boards, and
Matt Barnes 10 and 5...
after beating Sacramento by 48 the other night, the Phoenix players were talking as if everything was "all better now"...not the case, although they rarely play well at Golden State...
the Warriors shot 52% from the floor and went 13-for-28 from lalaland.
