Hapless Wiz fall again in Atlanta...Bibby, Joe Johnson and Marvin Williams lead the way for the Hawks, breaking a 4 game losing skid...Zaza contributes 18 rebounds...Maurice Evans, elevated to the starting lineup for Atlanta, made the least of his opportunity, with 5 points, 5 boards and 3 assists in 33 minutes...meanwhile, the Wiz got a great effort from Caron Butler and a nice double double from Antawn, but little else...maybe they could find some guards on Ebay?
Pistons punk Cavs at the Palace...Rasheed decided to play and came up with 21 and 15...Iverson and Rip Hamilton combined for 38 points...despite LeBron's 25, 6 and 6, Mo Money's 25 points, and decent outings by Z-Man and Delonte West, Cleveland couldn't get it done in Motown...Cavs got diddly squat from their bench, notably Daniel Gibson just missing his donut in 32 minutes...you get the impression, despite their nice record, that Cleveland is still missing one player that will take them to Mecca...paging Antonio McDyess.
Raptors outgun Wade, Heat in Miami...Calderon returned to the starting lineup and it showed, with 7 assists against only 1 turnover...Bargnani led Toronto with 25 points...strange but true...Bosh and Jermaine both had nice double doubles, and Anthony Parker threw in 19 points for good measure...D Wade was huge--40 points, 11 assits and 5 blocks--and the elusive Shawn Marion had a 20 and 14 double double, but that was about it for the Heat...remember when 20 and 14 was a lunchbox for Shawn Marion? It wasn't that long ago...my boy Udonis Haslem had 10 boards, but just missed a donut in 33 ineffective minutes.
Kings beat Hornets in New Orleans; sun to rise in west today...all five Kings starters found double figures, led by my boy John Salmons with 29 and 6...Chris Paul had his usual 20 points and 15 dimes, and David West netted 22...Tyson Chandler had a little double double...what's up with the Hornets? Games like this should give hope to the Michigan players at Ohio State this weekend.
Mavs dump Rockets in Houston...Jason Terry goes off for 31, while Dirk has a 24 and 12 lunchbox...the rest of the team managed 41 points, but it was plenty to handle the Yao-less Rockets...five Rockets found double figures, McGrady getting his 16 points on one leg...Artest had a 14 and 13 double double, and looked pretty lucid all night...I'm starting to love Aaron Brooks, 150 pounds of sheer hustle and energy...my boy Carl Landry had an off night, but I've forgiven him already!
Wolves hold on to edge Sixers...my boy Al Jeff led the way with 25 and 8, and some guy named Craig Smith came off the bench with 21 and 5 for Minnesota...Gomes, Miller and Foye all contributed to the win...Jason Collins, unfortunately, did not, pouring in one point and 2 boards in 14 excrutiating minutes...I'm so over these Collins brothers...I'm sure Philly is wondering how they lost to these mutts...Miller and Iggy combined for 37 points, 12 boards and 12 assists...Brand and new starter Thaddeus Young went for 34 points and 15 boards..the bench came up with next-to-nothing..perhaps it was just the Wolves' turn to win a game, and the Sixers happened to be on the schedule. Whatever--way to go Wolves.
Clippers win a basketball game in Okie Dokie...Clips starters outscored Thunder starters 96-43, and that was all she wrote...Green, Collison and Swift are about as imposing a back line as Curly, Moe and Larry...Kevin Durant worked his butt off again, and Damien Wilkins and R Russell Westbrook tried to help, too, all to no avail...I'd love to hear PJ Carlesimo explain his theory as to how this team is supposed to improve this year...Chris Kaman came through big again, with 25 and 14...the other four starters played well, too...nothing like a little Okie hospitality to cure those losing blues.
Hot Nuggets handle Spurs deep in the heart of Texas...Carmelo, with 21, 9 and 7, and Billups, with 22, 5 and 6, lead the way...K-Mart and Nene had productive nights, combining for 34 points and 16 caroms...Dahntay Jones had a donut in 18 minutes. Back to the bench, Dahntay...the Spurs are holding it together with bandaids and clarinet reeds...George Hill (George Hill?) led San Antonio with 20 points and not much else...Duncan and Finley found double figures, unconvincingly...all of this means essentially nothing, since when Parker and Ginobili return, the Spurs will be rock-hard again, and a factor in the playoffs.
Jazz run past Bucks in SLC...it was CJ Miles' turn to shine, leading Utah with 25 points, getting solid support from Boozer, the Ronnies and emerging point guard Andrei Kirilenko...Okur flirted with a donut during his 20 lackluster minutes...how is it that Andrew Bogut can put up a 16 and 20 night when he's off my roster, but averages around 8 points and 6 boards when he's on it?...Richard Jefferson had a low-impact 25 point night...my boy Ramon Sessions had another satisfactory fantasy night with 15, 2 and 3, playing for peanuts.
Blazers hammer Bulls in the Rose Garden...Chicago's circus trip looks to become its own circus...Portland put four bigs in double figures, including Here Comes Greg Oden with a loud little double double in only 17 minutes off the bench...Brandon Roy led Portland with 20 points...the Bulls lost every quarter of the game, with only Nocioni, Gooden and Gordon showing up at all...a 34-13 first quarter took the starch out of the Bulls, and 34% shooting capped the deal...hey, it's a long road trip. The Bulls could maybe sign a couple female contortionists to help the players regain their, um, mojo...R Derrick Rose, despite his spot on my fantasy roster, mailed in his game, going 1-for-8 from the floor with three turnovers in 30 terrible minutes.
