As the health care reform debate rages on, FOX News was busted yet again by Comedy Central's The Daily Show for altering video to falsely portray greater numbers of people attending an anti-public option rally.
VIDEO OF THE REPORT CAN BE SEEN BELOW
Video comes courtesy of The Daily Show and This Week With Barack Obama
The video shows the November 5th rally starting on a beautiflul sunny day in Washington DC, with clear blue skies and trees with leaves that had changed colors, and a crowd in the thousands listening to Republican lawmakers admonish them not to support a public option.
After cutting back to the studio to proclaim the crowd was between 25-45,000 people, the network switched back to a video with a much larger crowd than was originally shown. The only problem was that the crowd being shown was from another event two months earlier. All the trees had dark green leaves and the clear blue skies had been replaced by an overcast, late summer, day.
Critics are concerned because the role of the news media in America is supposed to be to report the news, not manufacture the news. The importance of this kind of manipulation cannot be understated. The US is facing massive threats to her economy by a health care system that has spiraled so out of control that it threatens to make up 20% of the Gross Domestic Product within 10 years.
The US is also in the midst of an overweight and obesity epidemic which threatens to overwhelm the country. Nearly two thirds of adult Americans are now considered to be overweight and half of those are considered to be medically obese. Concerns are rising that if a public option is added, with states given the right to opt out of the plan later, that insurance companies will refuse to accept any American citizens with the pre-existing condition of being overweight.
