There are many disorders that develop with social trends in our society. Most of them are called micro-traumatic and occur from a person's job that requires some repetitive motion. When the technological and clerical age became more popular, the incidence of carpal tunnel increased. Tennis enthusiast experience tennis elbow, golfers own golfer's elbow. Now cell phone users have their own disorder to claim.

The latest micro trauma complaint is centered on the popular use of cell phones. Constantly bending the arm to hold the phone to the ear places tension on the nerve that runs under the "funny bone" in the elbow. Atlanta is no stranger to the amount of people who use mobile phones.

Numbness and tingling are experienced in the pinky and ring finger and muscle strength decreases while gripping. This makes typing and holding things is difficult and painful. These symptoms are very similar to carpal tunnel syndrome. Surgery can be avoided by being proactive.

The natural way to prevent cell phone elbow is to make sure you follow these tips:

  • use a hands free device (preferable not wireless)
  • change hands while talking on the phone long periods
  • massage the inner part of your elbow and forearm if it feels sore

Treatment for cell phone elbow can be conservative and includes ultrasound therapy and chiropractic treatment to insure no bony structures are causing entrapment to the nerves while they pass through the elbow.
