Take a seat and get ready to learn!

In an effort to help you become “armed and dangerous with knowledge”, I’m going to start a series of columns called “The Educated Patriot”. In each installment I’ll provide a book, a movie, or other informational material that will enable you to gain the knowledge required to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States from enemies both foreign and domestic. This is not a call to arms with powder, ball, and musket, but a call to arms with the pen.

The enemies of the United States Constitution are many and have infiltrated our own government while at the same time taking an oath of office to uphold it. This is a battle, a war, and it is for your mind and the mindshare of your fellow countryman. This battle is being waged in the mainstream media; the propaganda machine of the Government and Corporate lobbyists is hard at work, so while I can I will offer the counterpoint to their rhetoric until I can offer it no more.

"The time is now near at hand which must probably determine, whether Americans are to be, Freemen, or Slaves; whether they are to have any property they can call their own; whether their Houses, and Farms, are to be pillaged and destroyed, and they consigned to a State of Wretchedness from which no human efforts will probably deliver them. The fate of unborn Millions will now depend, under God, on the Courage and Conduct of this army" -- Gen. George Washington, to his troops before the battle of Long Island

In my last column I brought to your attention the one of these propaganda machines, the New York Times Editorial Board and its constant attacks upon the Second Amendment. Happily, we will outlive them for the old gray lady of journalism is dying of her own illness.

Now, before I begin, it’s important to understand our Government. Where it came from, what it is, what it is not, and how our republic and its creation truly was, and still is, man’s last best hope on earth. So, with that I present these four excellent video segments created by the John Birch Society, for until you’ve taken the time to watch them and learn from them you cannot truly become an “Educated Patriot”.

Overview of America 1 of 4:  What sets America apart from other nations?  Where our American rights come from and how the founding fathers defined the proper role of government.

Overview of America 2 of 4:  What is the difference between a republic and democracy?  Where do they fall within a political spectrum?

Overview of America 3 of 4: This section explains the rise and fall of ancient Greek city-states and the Roman republic; defines capitalism and demonstrates free-enterprise.

Overview of America 4 of 4: This section completes the capitalism section and explains the difference between monopolistic state-controlled economies vs. the competitive free-enterprise economy. What type of America will we leave for future generations? Will we return to our constitutional roots?

"You and I have a rendezvous with destiny. We will preserve for our children this, the last best hope of man on earth, or we will sentence them to take the first step into a thousand years of darkness. If we fail, at least let our children and our children's children say of us we justified our brief moment here. We did all that could be done." -- Ronald Reagan
