Perhaps, you'll see 'Mister Lincoln' rose while there

Wake up sleepy heads.  Today, Saturday, October 3, 2009, marks the date for Oklahoma Horticultural Society's "Garden Tour for Connoisseurs." Tour gardens are open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  If it should rain, gardens will reopen on Sunday, October 4th.

Private gardens designed by many of Oklahoma City’s best landscape professionals will open for viewing.   Other gardens on the tour have been created by homeowners with the knowledge and skill to design, plant and develop unique, private spaces.

Volunteers from the Oklahoma Horticultural Society and members of the Master Gardeners will be at each location to answer questions.   I'll be at the garden of Cheryl McIntosh, 12621 Cobblestone Pkwy.  Come by and see me.  Tour proceeds support the educational goals of the Society, insuring continued beautification of Oklahoma City’s private and public spaces.

Each garden will display trees and shrubs that thrive in Oklahoma's extreme weather conditions, so this is a good time to plan for your own space. Don't miss the gardens on tour with outdoor living spaces.  One features a chandelier and pizza oven for elaborate outdoor entertaining.

Tour neighborhoods include: Belle Isle, Quail Creek, Cobblestone and two rural settings. The secluded gardens at Full Circle Book Store are also open, and ticket holders for the tour will receive a 15% discount on gardening books when tour tickets are presented the day of the tour. Vendors with plants and gardening items for sale will be set up at Stout gardens.

Getting to see all of these gardens is a once-a-year opportunity, so put on your shades and grab your garden hat and experience the beauty and serenity lying just beyond the garden gate.
