Swine flu has killed two California residents, health officials reported Monday.
The victims were a middle-aged man from San Bernardino County and a middle-aged woman from Los Angeles County, according to the California Health Department.
Seventeen other swine flu deaths have been reported nationally, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Worldwide, 62 countries have recorded 17,410 swine flu cases and 115 deaths.
In California, the first flu victim was in his 40s and suffered from pneumonia, heart disease, high blood pressure and obesity. He died in May at his home.
The other victim lived in central Los Angeles and died in a hospital in May.
California has confirmed 576 swine flu cases and 226 probable cases as of May 28.
