Here are some literary happenings around the Bay area and in central Florida in October:
The Writers' of Childrens' Literature Critique Group will meet at the Brandon Barnes & Noble on this evening, October 6th, and is open to all aspiring authors of childrens' literature.
Chef Roberto Santibanez will be signing his new book, Rosa's New Mexican Table, at the Dale Mabry Barnes & Noble on Thursday, October 8th.
Three local authors will sign their new releases at the Lakeland Barnes & Noble on Friday, October 11th: Debbie Sorrentino, author of Wake Up! and Smell Your Business Burning; Margaret Register, author of the novel, No Place For Plastic Saints; and Steve Rajtar, author of the non-fiction, Historic Photos of University of Florida.
Heard of the popular children's series, Diary of a Wimpy Kid? The area Borders' stores will host a book release party for the newest installment, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days, on Saturday, October 12th at 4pm. (Contact your local store for more information.)
Tampa Writers, a member group of the Florida Writers' Association (FWA), will meet at the Barnes & Noble on Dale Mabry for the 2nd of two query letter and pitching workshops taught by Molli Nickell.
As a precursor to its 2009 conference and a fundraiser to help fight illiteracy, the FWA is offering a sought-after Margie Larson workshop, Empowering Characters Emotions on October 22nd at the Orlando Marriot Lake Mary.
Then, the FWA will host its 2009 Florida Writers' Assocation annual members-only conference, October 23-25th, also at the Orlando Marriott.
That fourth weekend in October will be one busy weekend this year, as it is also the time of the 17th Annual Festival of Reading, hosted by the St. Petersburg Times and the University of South Florida on Saturday, October 24th.
And also on24th will be the October regional meeting of FL-based ACFW members, featuring author Tosca Lee. This is a members-only event too, but members may bring a guest. For information about membership, check out American Christian Fiction Writers website.
