Starting your own business is hard. It takes time, it takes money, and it takes expertise. Assuming you don’t have an over-abundance of any of these, then I would highly recommend that you read one or more of the following books as soon as you can.

The first is “E-Myth Revisited”, which explains why most new ventures fail and how to build a business and not just a job for yourself. The second is “Rich Dad, Poor Dad”, which tells you how to create a business that scales independent of your (very finite) personal time and money. The third is the “Little Red Book of Selling”, which instructs you on how to more effectively sell both yourself and your product or service. And the fourth is the “One Minute Entrepreneur”, which walks you through many of the typical problems confronted by new business owners and how to address them.

Each of these books is a best-seller in its field and is easy and quick to digest.  And they comprise just four books among hundreds that are available to budding entrepreneurs.  If you have some books that you think might favorably influence someone getting ready to head out on their own, feel free to share them in your comments.

The bottom line is that time is money and knowledge is power.  So why not invest a few dollars in these resources - and others like them - and profit from the experience?
