Binion’s Haunted Casino!

I must confess I don’t visit Downtown and the Freemont Experience as often as I should. When an invitation to visit one of Las Vegas’ oldest established Casinos ‘Binions’ arrived, I jumped at the chance especially as it involved the appearance of one of Europe’s top illusionists Jan Rouven. The occasion was the Freemont Street annual October Fright Fest. Binion’s Gambling Hall and Hotel boast three of the most terrifying Haunted Casino experiences plus Free shows nightly on the Freemont stages. There is an assortment of great free entertainment provided by the Golden Nugget, Fitzgerald’s and other Freemont St. Hotels that you really shouldn’t miss! There was one other surprise that awaited us and any other fans of America’s Got Talent – an appearance of one of the finalists – Las Vegas locals “Sexy and Dangerous Mario & Jenny” who also make nightly appearances during this event that runs until October 30^th.

But I digress- back to the man with 9 lives! Jan Rouven. I, as regular readers of my column will be only too aware spent many years as a professional magician and had the pleasure of completing 4 world tours performing the death defying bullet catch. I never clamed to be an illusionist and certainly never preformed anything like you will witness if you take my advice and catch Jan during his USA visit!

The impalement is spectacular to say the least (See picture below) but the climax of the show blew me away. Audiences around the world have marveled what we call the Houdini Water Escape, where the Magician is locker, handcuffed in a canister of water and has only seconds to escape. Another amazing feat of legerdemain is what we call the substation trunk where the magician or his assistant is handcuffed and tied into a mail bad, placed in a locked trunk, under the supervision of randomly selected members of the audience. The Magician or his assistant then stands on the trunk slowly raising a curtain which is immediately dropped revealing the two have apparently changed places. On opening the trunk the partner is discovered also shackled inside the bag! Both illusions have astounded audiences for many years. Jan however caps them all! Not only does he perform the Water escape in a transparent tank, but the climax comes …… well you go see for yourself!
