High atop a pyramid of personal success and failure we stand balanced, viewing down upon many stones of progress, set-back, associates and decisions. We are in search of a new horizon; the old, now a mirage in the distance. In our hand we hold two destinies.
The first represents that of immediate reward with forward progress limited or even a move backwards towards original posture. Diminished return on our career investment. A deposit of missed sunrises and sunsets, lost family moments and gray hairs earned from stress on the eve success. Investments meant to guide us towards brighter horizons, personal wealth and a better life.
The second embodies the potential for greater risk but also far greater reward.
Why then the need for such a decision; has our business acumen changed or are the rules of engagement melding into a different form before our very eyes?
This is the foundation on which we now balance, its structure not as sound as days past however the principals by whom it was built, timeless and unbreakable. Stone by stone it was erected. Not all as perfect as the next, but together an ambitious design and awe inspiring form. From all sides of the structure there is an effort, by multiple elements, to drive us down the pyramid to a lower posture. To date our resistance has been staunch and pushes back against any suggestion to take even the smallest step back or remove even a single stone.
It is by our own accord that we juggle the destinies of risk and immediate reward wondering which one we should allow to shape the future form of the structure. Gamble on time and the potential treasure it holds or immediate acceptance of current reality and the necessity therein of a move back towards foundation of the game. Below the sirens of failure loom continually stirring up a myriad of false expectations in an effort to guide us towards their position.
You are the designer of your own pyramid; the final layout of which is not yet determined. It is unthinkable to allow even one stone to be tarnished. There is a storm above but a world of opportunity below. Is it not critical that we maintain our structure and continue to refine its form no matter the gamble needed to assure success? A world of strength and resilience is far greater than one of acceptance and lack of challenge.
What destiny do you choose? That of acceptance and collection of immediate limited reward or that of greater risk but potential realization of a greater long term reward? Both re-shape the pyramid resulting in either a stronger foundation or a crumbling facade. Your voice and decisions will shape the thought process of generations to come. What do you have to add or remove from our collective pyramid of progress?
